COO Dave George will look after Cheddar\u2019s operations while<strong> Capital Grille<\/strong> President John Martin will oversee Seasons 52.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Dunkin\u2019 Brands (79) <\/strong>named Dave Hoffmann as its new CEO. Hoffman succeeds Nigel Travis, who stays with the company as Executive Chairman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Eggs Up Grill (3)<\/strong> named Ricky Richardson CEO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 El Pollo Loco (16) <\/strong>Chief Marking Officer Ed Valle flew the coop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 FoodFirst Global Restaurants (21) <\/strong>named Mike Ellis its new Chief Development Officer. Ellis will be charged with executing real estate strategy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh (8) <\/strong>hired Larry Sidoti as its new Chief Development Officer. \u00a0Sidoti was the founder of<strong> Juice It Up!<\/strong> before leaving that company in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Mama Fu&#8217;s Franchise Group (12) <\/strong>named Jamie Cohen (from <strong>Jason\u2019s Deli<\/strong>) to the newly created position of Chief Marketing Officer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 NPC International (18) <\/strong>restructured its leadership team and created separate divisions for its <strong>Pizza Hut<\/strong> and <strong>Wendy\u2019s <\/strong>operations. CEO Jim Schwartz will transition to Chairman, and CFO Troy Cook will become Vice Chairman. Co-founder Erik Oberholtzer becomes Executive Chairman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Industry Insight <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u2022 CaliBurger <\/strong>is trialing facial recognition software in its ordering kiosks in 10 locations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Cheesecake Factory <\/strong>announced its new fast casual concept, <strong>Social Monk Asian Kitchen.<\/strong> The first unit will open in Thousand Oaks, CA in the fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Chuck E. Cheese<\/strong> introduced an \u201cAll You Can Play\u201d model at company owned units.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Del Taco <\/strong>added \u201cFresh Mexican Grill\u201d to its branding as it attempts to reposition the brand to draw in fans of both <strong>Taco Bell<\/strong> and<strong> Chipotle. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 LEON, <\/strong>a UK-based \u201chealthy\u201d QSR, will open its first US location in DC this summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Smashburger\u2019s <\/strong>majority owner, Jollibee Foods, has plans to acquire a Mexican concept.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Tim Hortons <\/strong>plans to drop $100 million to improve its distribution system and open two new warehouses. Among other franchisee complaints, recent issues arose when deliveries from the company to franchisees were delayed due to software changes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Wingstop<\/strong> will roll out delivery nationally in 2019 using a proprietary app platform. The company will continue to use Olo\u2019s online ordering platform for the back end but replace the interface with one developed in house. Currently, 24% of Wingstop sales are digital, and the company has a goal to increase that number to 40%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Mergers and Acquisitions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Ballard Brands <\/strong>bought <strong>Garces Restaurant Group <\/strong>for $8 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Native Foods Caf\u00e9<\/strong> (CO) was acquired by Millstone Capital Group, which also owns the Missouri-based <strong>Lion\u2019s Choice<\/strong> chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 P.F. Chang\u2019s <\/strong>owners Centerbridge Partners are exploring a sale of the chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Taco del Mar <\/strong>was acquired by private equity firm High Bluff Capital Partners, the firm that recently purchased <strong>Quiznos. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong> Real Estate\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Cowboy Chicken <\/strong>opened its first California location in Rancho Bernardo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Freshii <\/strong>has made it to Arkansas with the opening of a franchise location in Bentonville.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Johnny\u2019s Italian Steakhouse <\/strong>will add a total of 5-7 franchised units in the next 18 months in Colorado, Michigan and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Patachou Inc. <\/strong>will open a third location for its <strong>Public Greens <\/strong>concept in Indianapolis this fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Shuckin\u2019 Shack Oyster Bar <\/strong>will add 8 franchised locations in the next 12 months, including its first store in Georgia. The company is also exploring Midwest expansion, with the greater Cincinnati area as an initial target.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Stacked Pickle, <\/strong>a small Indiana-based chain of sports bars owned by former Colt Gary Brackett, plans to begin franchising, with up to 5 locations opening in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Tropical Smoothie Caf\u00e9 <\/strong>opened 47 new stores in the first half of the year and has identified its key growth markets as Atlanta, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p><em>Just because we don\u2019t mention it here doesn\u2019t mean it didn\u2019t happen \u2013 or we didn\u2019t capture it.
