Symancyk to the newly created role of COO, along with the addition of Peter Whitsett to the Meijer team as Exec VP Merchandising and Marketing.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">PetSmart<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> CEO Robert Moran has taken on the additional role of Chairman of the Board, the company. Moran will retain his CEO duties in addition to his new title. \u00a0Phil Francis, previously Executive Chairman, will remain a member of the board.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\ufeff<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The company also announced that its board of directors has\u00a0appointed David Lenhardt as the company\u2019s new President and COO.\u00a0 The PetSmart board of directors also appointed <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Lawrence<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> \u00a0Molloy to the additional position of Exec VP. \u00a0Molloy will retain his title and duties as CFO, and has assumed additional responsibility, overseeing the company\u2019s real estate functions.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The <b>Retail Industry Leaders Association<\/b> has appointed a new board Chairman.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">RILA announced that Target Chairman, President and CEO Gregg Steinhafel was appointed RILA Chairman of the Board. The company announced that Neil Ashe is the new President and CEO of the company&#8217;s global e-commerce business. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Walmart <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">announced yesterday that it has named Greg Foran, Senior VP for Wal-Mart International, to be President and CEO of Wal-Mart China.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Wal-Mart Stores<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">, Inc. announced several executive changes featuring promotions of internal talent.\u00a0 <b>Sam&#8217;s Club<\/b> President and CEO Brian Cornell informed the company that he and his wife would like to relocate for family reasons.\u00a0 With his departure, Rosalind G. Brewer was promoted to President and CEO of Sam&#8217;s Club.\u00a0 Rollin Ford was promoted to Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the company.\u00a0 \u202a Gisel Ruiz was promoted to Exec VP and COO \u00a0for Walmart <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>\u00a0 Karenann Terrell was promoted to Chief Information Officer for the company. In this position she will be responsible for the company&#8217;s global technology systems including stores and clubs, supply chain, merchandising and enterprise platforms.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Financial Focus<\/span>:<o:p><\/o:p><\/b><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Amazon\u2019s<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> sales for the full year 2011 increased 41% to $48 billion compared with $34 billion in 2010.\u00a0 <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><i><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Mergers and Acquisitions:<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The Pep Boys \u2014 Manny, Moe &#038; Jack<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">, has agreed to be taken private by private equity firm The Gores Group for about $791 million. The total transaction, including debt, is valued at about $1 billion.\u00a0 Pep Boys&#8217; board unanimously approved the acquisition, which still needs approval from the company&#8217;s shareholders. The transaction is expected to close in the fiscal second quarter.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Peterbrooke Chocolatier<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> announced that Hickory Foods Inc, has completed its purchase of Peterbrooke Chocolatier Inc.\u00a0 The company will now be called <b>Peterbrooke Chocolate Co<\/b>., under the Hickory Foods umbrella.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Shopko Stores<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> and <b>Pamida<\/b>, have announced they will merge to create one of the largest <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> retailers focused on serving smaller and rural communities.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The combined entity will have nearly 350 locations in 22 states and plans for new store growth in the second half of 2012 and beyond.\u00a0 January 4th, 2012: It was announced that Shopko and Pamida would merge and that the Pamida stores would be rebranded to Sh<\/p>\n<p>opko Hometown stores. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Financial details of the merger, which is expected to close in late February, were not disclosed.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><i><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Industry Insight<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">: <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">BJ&#8217;s Wholesale Club<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> has announced the opening of three new locations, one in <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Virginia<\/st1:state> and two in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placename w:st=\"on\">New York<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. \u00a0<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Conn&#8217;s<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> announced the closing of five stores in Texas and Oklahoma this month, leaving the multiregional CE, appliance and furniture chain with 64 locations.<\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><st1:state w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Conn<\/span><\/b><\/st1:place><\/st1:state><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8216;s<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> is proceeding with plans to open five to seven stores in new and existent markets during its next fiscal year.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Disney Store<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> announced its 2012 store opening plans, which includes eight new and five remodeled locations in North America (the <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">US<\/st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Canada<\/st1:country-region>), and the company&#8217;s first ever store in <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region>, opening in the fall in <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Shanghai<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.\u00a0 The North American openings include the debut of Disney&#8217;s new interactive store format in the states of <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Colorado<\/st1:state>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Connecticut<\/st1:state>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Delaware<\/st1:state>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Utah<\/st1:state> and <st1:state w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Virginia<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Dollar General<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> announced that it plans to open 625 new stores in 2012. These new stores and jobs will be spread among Dollar General\u2019s 38-state operating area, plus <st1:state w:st=\"on\">California<\/st1:state>and <st1:state w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Massachusetts<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Dollar General<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> has announced that it expects to open approximately 50 stores in Central and <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Southern  California<\/st1:place>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Family Dollar<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> has announced plans to open seven new stores in and around the <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Fresno<\/st1:city>,  <st1:state w:st=\"on\">California<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> market.\u00a0 The first two stores are expected to open in May 2012.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Target <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">announced that one of its <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Orlando<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">FL<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>SuperTargets has been closed.<\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The location was opened in 2001.\u00a0 The retailer indicated this specific site was closing because of its long-term financial performance.\u00a0<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Target<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> has closed 3 of its older stores in CO, NC and OR.<\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0All locations are of the retailer\u2019s discount format.\u00a0 All stores are closing due to their financial performance.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Target<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> has disclosed the location of its first 24 stores in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Canada<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>.
