Personnel Updates<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

AmerisourceBergen<\/strong> announced that Tim Guttman \u2014 who has served as acting CFO since February, as well as VP and corporate controller for the last 10 years \u2014 has been appointed Senior VP and CFO, effective immediately. Guttman will report to AmerisourceBergen’s president and CEO Steven Collis. Guttman replaced Michael DiCandilo, who left his role as Exec VP and CFO of the company earlier this year to pursue other interests<\/p>\n

BioScrip<\/strong> appointed Hai V. Tran as Senior VP, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer.<\/p>\n

Rite Aid<\/strong>category manager Paul Margeson has resigned, a company spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n

Walgreens <\/strong>named Reuben Slone as Senior VP Supply Chain Management, where he will have leadership responsibility for distribution, transportation, systems integration and engineering, Lean and Six Sigma supply chain initiatives, and community outreach.<\/p>\n

Industry Insight<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

MinuteClinic<\/a><\/strong> has opened two walk-in medical clinics inside CVS\/pharmacy<\/a><\/strong> stores in San Antonio.\u00a0 A third clinic is slated to open later this year. The clinics operate seven days a week including weekday evenings and no appointment is necessary.<\/p>\n

Walgreens <\/strong>launched its national Retail Employees with Disabilities Initiative (REDI). The in-store training program aims to help people with disabilities gain retail and customer service skills, and works closely with community organizations and vocational rehabilitation agencies to train and develop candidates. Another similar initiative at Walgreens distribution centers (DC) resulted in 10 percent of the workforce being made up of people with disabilities at all levels across all 20 DCs. The company hopes to see the same success with REDI.<\/p>\n

Mergers and Acquisitions<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Walgreen Co.<\/strong> announced that it has completed its acquisition of certain assets of <\/strong><\/p>\n

BioScrip, Inc.\u2019s<\/strong> community specialty pharmacies and centralized specialty and mail service pharmacy businesses.<\/p>\n

Green Initiatives<\/span><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Walgreens <\/strong>and Miami Beach, FL-based Car Charging Group Inc. have announced an expansion plan for electric vehicle charging services to 13 Walgreens locations in Tampa, St. Petersburg as well as in Orlando. Car Charging Group stated that the exact locations of the new stations have yet to be identified, according to a company spokesperson. The partnership follows an increased focus by retail drug giant Walgreens to focus on green technologies at its stores.<\/p>\n
