A company spokesman said the resignation was unrelated to a Chinese government food safety case against several Wal-Mart stores.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Ed Chan, CEO of <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Wal-Mart<\/st1:city> <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, left for personal reasons, the company said. Scott Price, president of Walmart Asia, will fill the position in the interim. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Clara Wong, the Senior VP for Personnel at <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Wal-Mart<\/st1:city> <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, also resigned.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Chan oversaw Walmart <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>&#8216;s expansion from 70 stores and 30,000 employees to 353 stores and workforce of nearly 100,000.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Industry Insight<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">: <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">99 Cents Only Stores <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">plans eight store openings between<b> <\/b><\/span>November 10, 2011 and February 9, 2012 <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Books-A-Million<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"> which has been taking over the leases of former Borders locations, will transform 41 of the sites into BAM stores in early November. Most the locations, which are across the nation, represent new markets for the bookseller. \u00a0In addition to opening the 41 outlets, the company is closing 21 locations.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Hart Stores Inc<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">. began liquidation sales for 32 stores as part of its restructuring under the Companies\u2019 Creditors Arrangement Act.\u00a0 The 32 stores subject to liquidation are Hart, Bargain Giant, and Geant des Aubaines units, including 12 in <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Quebec<\/st1:state>, 11 in <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Newfoundland<\/st1:state>and Labrador, five in <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Ontario<\/st1:state>, two in <st1:state w:st=\"on\">New Brunswick<\/st1:state> and two in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:state w:st=\"on\">Nova Scotia<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>. \u00a0\u00a0The locations impacted by today&#8217;s announcement include Hart Stores in: New Liskeard, Port Colborne, Sault St. Marie, Simcoe, and Whitby, ON; Chateauguay, Cowansville, Delson, La Pocatiere, Nicolet, Sherbrooke, Ste.-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Trois-Rivieres, Valleyfield, Victoriaville and Ville de Quebec, QC; Grand Falls, St. John&#8217;s and Miramichi, NB; Clarenville, Corner Brook, Labrador City, and Marystown, NL; and Port Hawkesbury and Windsor, NS. Bargain Giant stores being closed are located in Bay Roberts, Carbonear, <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Grand Falls<\/st1:place>, Lewisporte, Port-aux-Basques, and Stephenville, NL. Also being closed is the Geant des Aubaines in Sept-Iles, QC. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Spencer Gifts<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">, a resident of many malls across North America, has leased its first-ever location in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Manhattan<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>.\u00a0 As one of Spencer\u2019s few free-standing locations, the store, located downtown near <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placename w:st=\"on\">New York<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>, encompasses over 1,840 sq. ft. on the ground floor. It is due\u00a0to open in advance of the holiday season.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Toys\u201cR\u201dUs<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"> announced that it has established business operations in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Poland<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>and plans to open its first store in the country at the end of November. The first Toys\u201cR\u201dUs store in Poland will open in the country\u2019s capital city of Warsaw just in time for the holiday shopping season, with several additional locations slated to open in major cities throughout the country in 2012.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Walmart <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">has shut down all four of its Marketside stores. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Green Initiatives\/Sustainability<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Best Buy<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"> is to implement a new energy management system across its 1,105 <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> retail locations, in a move expected to reduce the company\u2019s energy costs and carbon output by 15 percent within three years.\u00a0 The new automated energy management system will be implemented in approximately 300 stores by Jan. 31, with full integration with all <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/s\n\nt1:country-region> stores by mid-2012.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">The energy savings initiative comes as Best Buy tries to increase its online sales and scale back its retail space.\u00a0 Best Buy currently spends about $10,000 per month, per <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> store, on energy costs. The changes should save the company $71 million over six years.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Best Buy<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"> is pilot testing home energy efficiency departments in <st1:city w:st=\"on\">San Carlos<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Calif.<\/st1:state>, <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Houston<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>and Chicago, the retailer said Friday. Through these in-store departments, the company hopes to help consumers draw up efficiency road maps and navigate the growing suite of home energy management products and utility incentives. Consumers outside these three test markets can also access the company&#8217;s new <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Online<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Learning<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">Center<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> at BestBuy.com to see virtual product demonstrations and take a self-assessment.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Office Depot<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">\u2019s global headquarters in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Boca Raton<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Fla.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Energy Star certification. The certification signifies that the building performs in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Commercial buildings that earn EPA\u2019s Energy Star certification use an average of 35% less energy than typical buildings and also release 35%\u00a0 less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Office Depot improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its building. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">The energy-saving actions that Office Depot took to earn the Energy Star certification included retrofitting most of the lighting on the global headquarters\u2019 campus, which consisted of:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Replacing all T5 lamps with 27-watt, 4100 Kelvin lamps;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Changing all parking garage lights from 150-watt metal-halide to 42-watt fluorescent lamps; and<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Reducing the amount of lamps that are on during the daylight hours 70%.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Office Depot<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"> announced that three of its stores hold the top spots for retail energy efficiency gains at the midpoint of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Energy Star National Building Competition.\u00a0 Office Depot stores in <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Plano<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Texas<\/st1:state>, <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Raleigh<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">N.C.<\/st1:state>, and <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Tallahassee<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Fla.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, are the three top contenders, respectively, in the retail category.\u00a0 The <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Plano<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>store has experienced a 17% energy reduction at the midpoint in the competition.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Walmart <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">will open its first store in the <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>that utilizes all-LED lighting on the interior. The store, a Walmart Neighborhood Market, is located at 2111 N.
