Lowe’s<\/span><\/b> is in the process of closing 20 underperforming stores in 15 states and slowing down its rate of new-store development. Ten locations have already shuttered, while the remaining 10 will be closed in about a month, after closing sales.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
The stores are affected by the closing are in Los Banos, Calif.; Westminster, Calif.; Denver; Aurora, Ill.; Oswego, Ill.; Chalmette, La.; Haverhill, Mass.; Biddeford, Maine; Ellsworth, Maine; Ionia, Mich.; Rogers, Minn.; Claremont, N.H.; Hooksett, N.H.; Manchester, N.H.; Old Bridge, N.J.; Batavia, N.Y.; N. Kingstown, R.I.; Emporia, Va.; S. Tacoma, Wash.; and Brown Deer, Wis.\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
The company also stated it is slowing down its rate of new store openings and canceling some projects that were in the pipeline. Instead of a new store-opening rate of about 30 per year, Lowe’s expects to open 10 to 15 new stores per year in North America<\/st1:place> starting in 2012.\u00a0 About 1,950 jobs will be lost.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

National Ace Hardware<\/b> is closing its store at 3555 S. Howell Ave<\/st1:address><\/st1:street>in Milwaukee<\/st1:city><\/st1:place><\/span>.<\/div>\n

ProBuild\u00a0<\/span><\/b>has announced the closings or consolidations of 12 of its locations across the country. \u00a0The company will be exiting three markets, consolidating operations in three markets and eliminating lines of business in three markets. Most of the closures are expected to take place by Nov. 15, 2011. The company will make market exits in Yorkville and Westmont, Ill.<\/st1:state>; Columbia<\/st1:city>, S.C.<\/st1:state>; and South Fork, Colo.<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> It plans market consolidations in Granite<\/st1:placename> Falls<\/st1:placetype>, Sedro Woolley, Coupeville, Bonney<\/st1:placename> Lake<\/st1:placetype> and Moses Lake, Wash., and Cherry Hill<\/st1:city>, N.J.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
