{"id":4522,"date":"2014-11-20T14:37:17","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T14:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom.chainstoreguide.com\/?p=4522"},"modified":"2014-11-20T14:37:17","modified_gmt":"2014-11-20T14:37:17","slug":"industry-updates-home-center-and-hardware-chains-november-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chainstoreguide.com\/offthechain\/2014\/11\/industry-updates-home-center-and-hardware-chains-november-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry Updates: Home Center and Hardware Chains \u2013 November 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Personnel Update<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ace Hardware Corporation<\/strong> hired Steve Locanto as corporate controller.\u00a0 Mr. Locanto will oversee a broad range of financial matters, including internal and external financial reporting, internal controls, operational accounting and systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boise Cascade Company<\/strong> has named Tom Corrick to the post of COO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boise Cascade Company<\/strong> has named Dan Hutchinson Exec VP Wood Products replacing Tom Corrick who was promoted to COO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boise Cascade Company<\/strong> has promoted Wayne Rancourt to the positions of Exec VP, CFO and Treasurer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Builders FirstSource<\/strong> has promoted Chad Crow, previously its Senior VP and CFO, to the title of President and COO. \u00a0The company is also now in the process of searching for a new CFO; Crow will continue fulfilling those duties until a replacement is found.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fastenal<\/strong> announced that CEO Willard Oberton has tendered his resignation to leave the company effective December 31.\u00a0 Plans call for Oberton to remain as chairman of the company and to be actively involved in strategic planning and performance measurements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fastenal<\/strong> announced that as a result of Willard Oberton\u2019s decision to step down as CEO prompted the company to elevate President Leland Hein, Jr. to the additional role of CEO and appoint him to the board.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gordon Lumber<\/strong> has selected Erin Leonard to become the company&#8217;s new president. Leonard, who started with Gordon Lumber in 2011, and most recently served as COO, was chosen to fill the role of president after an extensive nationwide search.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Home Depot<\/strong> U.S. Retail President Craig Menear succeeded Frank Blake as CEO. Menear, who\u2019s been with the chain since 1997, will join him on the board immediately.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Home Depot<\/strong> announced that Marvin Ellison has left the company to become CEO at <strong>J.C. Penney<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Home Depot<\/strong> promoted Marc Powers to the role of Exec VP U.S. Stores<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0 Powers replaces <strong>Marvin Ellison, <\/strong>who left Home Depot to join J.C. Penney in a role that will eventually put him in the CEO post.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IKEA<\/strong> has appointed Stefan Sj\u00f6strand President of its Canadian organization after he has previously served as Senior VP, IKEA France.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>International Housewares Association<\/strong> has named Gregory Cairo, president of Groupe SEB USA as Treasurer.\u00a0 As officer of the IHA, Cairo will serve a one-year term, ending Sept. 30, 2015.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mergers and Acquisitions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ENAP and PAL<\/strong> have announced they have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent to merge.\u00a0 The new cooperative will have a combined purchasing power of $1.5 billion dollars annually.\u00a0 PAL was formed in 1937, and ENAP in 1967. Moving forward, the combined membership will span 33 states and include 447 member companies operating 742 lumberyards.\u00a0 The Letter of Intent is non-binding, and the merger requires approval by the shareholders of both cooperatives as well as satisfactory completion of due diligence.\u00a0 Steve Sallah, ENAP president and CEO will be president and CEO of the new company and PAL\u2019s CEO and president Paul Dean will be Executive VP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ENAP and PAL<\/strong>\u2019s proposed merger currently lacks a new company name.\u00a0 The name of the new organization is expected to engage a great deal of discussion between now and February 2015, the deadline for the ratification of the merger agreement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>US\u00a0LBM \u00a0Holdings, LLC<\/strong> \u00a0(\u201cUS\u00a0LBM\u201d) announced the acquisition of\u00a0Samuel\u00a0Feldman Lumber Co. (\u201cFeldman Lumber\u201d) of Brooklyn, NY from Robert\u00a0and \u00a0Kenneth Feldman.\u00a0Kenny\u00a0Feldman will become President\u00a0of\u00a0Feldman Lumber and\u00a0Bob\u00a0will\u00a0remain with the company as\u00a0well. Feldman Lumber operates four locations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>US \u00a0 LBM \u00a0 Holdings, \u00a0 LLC \u00a0 (\u201cUS \u00a0 LBM\u201d)<\/strong> announced\u00a0 the acquisition of Standard \u00a0 Companies, Inc. of\u00a0Grand Rapids, MI from the Rottschafer family.\u00a0 The\u00a0third \u00a0generation of the original founding family\u00a0now\u00a0manages\u00a0the\u00a0operation with Tim Rottschafer as President.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry Insight:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Marvin\u2019s Building Materials and Home Centers<\/strong> is adding to its fleet of mid-sized home centers.\u00a0 Under construction is a store in Ozark, Alabama, which is expected to open in the spring of 2015.
