Being #1 isn\u2019t easy, but it is pretty sweet.<\/p>\n

According to Chain Store Guide\u2019s Restaurant Operators Database<\/em>, Gigi\u2019s Cupcakes has experienced an astonishing increase in store locations since the recession \u2013 a 3,033.3% increase to be exact. While many specialty dessert concepts crumbled for more reasons than one, Gigi\u2019s Cupcakes not only flourished during the recession, but continues to devour its competition today with no plans on stopping.<\/p>\n

Although Gigi\u2019s recipes and cupcake options are far from simple, her business model was just that. In 2008, CEO and Founder Gina \u201cGigi\u201d Butler started the specialty dessert concept with only one location. With help from her family and three partners, Alan Thompson, Randall Butler, and Terry Butler, Gigi\u2019s Cupcakes started franchising in 2009 with three locations and tripled to nine in 2010. Four years later, Gigi\u2019s Cupcakes is knocking on the door of the 100-unit mark.<\/p>\n

After sifting through the competition, there are currently 94 locations spanning across 21 states with plans to open an additional 25 franchised locations in 2015. Just last month, the company announced its first stop toward world domination with a 100-unit franchise agreement in South Korea.<\/p>\n
