What a difference a year makes. Last November, Tyler, TX-based Brookshire Grocery Co. was on the market with a projected price tag of $1 billion until a Thanksgiving-week letter to associates from Chairman Brad Brookshire announced that the company was no longer for sale. Fast-forward to today and Brookshire is closing a deal that will add 25 new stores in Texas and Lousiana under a new banner, Spring Market. The stores in question are shuttered Walmart Express locations. The new Spring Market locations will bring total store count to 177, a sizable 16% increase for a company that\u00a0 has sat on approximately 150 stores for the better part of a decade. The addition of 25 stores will also make Brookshire Grocery Co. the 29th<\/sup> largest supermarket operator in the US, according to Chain Store Guide\u2019s<\/strong> Database of Supermarket, Grocery and Convenience Store Chains.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n
