It\u2019s no secret that Target<\/strong> is struggling. The retailer readily admits that it\u2019s in the early stages of a multi-year effort to right the ship. We illustrated one symptom of the struggle in last month\u2019s Discount Dashboard<\/a>, four straight quarters of negative comparable store sales, a state of affairs that\u2019s expected for the remainder of fiscal 2017. But following on a better-than-anticipated Q1, last week\u2019s big reveal of four new in-house apparel brands \u2013 A New Day, JoyLab, Project 62 and Goodfellow & Co. \u2013 due in-store this fall, is another step forward. The company hopes that phasing in these brands (and phasing out the likes of Merona and Mossimo) will help turn the tide in apparel sales, which saw its first decline in years in 2016.<\/p>\n
