The name Do It Best was created in 1998 as a result of the merger between member-based buying cooperatives Hardware Wholesalers, Inc. (HWI) and Our Own Hardware.  The respective founders of HWI and Our Own had long admired each other’s organization and had at times shared research and ideas to better promote growth.  The catchy Do it Best moniker was incorporated as a means to unite the members of the two formerly separate entities and offer a natural national appeal for the co-op.  It also served to neatly tie together truck-fleet, store designs, advertising and merchandising.
