Recently, the long reigning leader of retailer cooperatives completed a changing of the guard as John Venhuizen was named President and CEO.  Mr. Venhuizen replaced the highly esteemed Ray Griffith who served as President, CEO of the co-op from 2005.  Mr. Griffith had stepped down from the presidency last September in favor of Mr. Venhuizen and completed the transfer of power as Mr. Venhuizen acceded to the CEO position earlier this month.

Under Mr. Griffith’s watch Ace consistently ranked high in customer satisfaction while maintaining its number one ranking in Chain Store Guide’s Index of Leading Companies in terms of Buying Groups/Co-ops.   In 2012, Ace ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Home Improvement Stores for the Sixth Consecutive Year,” according to J.D. Power and Associates.

In December of last year Ace acquired Westlake Hardware one of its most prominent members.  At the time of the acquisition, Ace announced that Westlake would essentially remain autonomous as a wholly owned subsidiary with its executive administration firmly left in place.  Thus far Ace has kept its word as Westlake recently opened a bold new prototype which may well serve as an inspiration for Ace locations worldwide.
