rue21, Macy’s & More: Charting 3,600+ Closings

We received more feedback for this March Exclusive than we have for any other apparel-focused piece in the last year. So, we’ve taken a step back to survey the industry as a whole. Pulling data from both the CSG Apparel Specialty Stores Database and the Department Stores & Shoe Retailers Database, we’ve developed a picture of sorts that captures the current state of the most significant store-closing activities.

The graphic below accounts for more than 3,600 store closings – and we’re just half-way through. But the good news is, not all bricks-and-mortar retailers are contracting, which you can read about here.
